The purpose of food sampling

  • To investigate food poisoning outbreaks and food contamination incidents and to investigate complaints
  • To assess whether the suspected food of being sub-standard
  • To ensure that imported food complies with compositional requirements
  • To confirm whether the declarations made on the food label are accurate
  • To identify potential problems with specific types of food or types of food businesses and reassure the public about food standards
  • To deliver a more effective food inspection service

Eg : testing milk and milk products imported from China for melamine content.
