Industrial goods

  1. Primarily sold for use in producing other goods or rendering services
  2. Classified into six broad groups
    1. Raw materials- Basic materials derived from agriculture, mining, industries. Eg: raw cotton, iron ore, timber etc.
    2. Fabricating materials- already undergone some processing but require further processing- cotton yarn, bricks, copper sheets etc.
    3. Component parts: already undergone more or less complete processing -steering wheel, brake of an automobile.
    4. Installations: These comprise machinery, buildings and heavy equipment which do not enter into the finished product but are essential to production.
    5. Accessories: They are used as ancillaries to installations. These are less durable and less costly. Ex: Hand trucks, tools etc.
    6. Miscellaneous supplies: These do not enter the finished product but are consumed and used up. Ex: Fuel, paint, lubricating oils etc.

Services
Impersonal activities which are offered for sale either as such or in connection with the sale of goods are called services. The following are the types of services offered by marketers.

  • Personal and household services - cleaning and dyeing plants
  • Business services - advertising, consumer and merchantile credits
  • Advertisements
  • Hotels and tourist courts.
