Lesson 6:Oblique Projection Drawings

Oblique pictorial

Oblique drawings are drawings of an elevation or front of an object to scale and are parallel with the drawing surface where it is true size and shape. The top and one side are constructed by extending parallel lines back at an angle. These lines are not perpendicular to the picture plane, but rather oblique. All vertical lines on the object are drawn as vertical lines and all horizontal lines parallel to each other on the object are drawn parallel. The width and height are drawn to scale but the depth needs to be scaled. In an oblique pictorial drawing, the angles displayed among the axes, as well as the foreshortening factors (scale) are arbitrary. In oblique projections the front viewtrue size, and the receding surfaces are drawn on an angle to give it a pictorial appearance. This form of projection has the advantage of showing one face (the front face) of the object without distortion. Generally, the face with the greatest detail faces the front. is drawn
