Lesson 23: Indoor play activities in ECE

Values or functions

1. Block play provides opportunity for developing perceptual motor skills such as stacking, reaching, grasping, lifting, shoving, and carrying.
   
2. Gives emotional satisfaction especially when children build up big structures, it gives them a sense of power.
   
3. Contributes in training intellectual operations.
   
4. Fosters creativity-building according to child’s imagination.
   

Preparation

1. Make sure that blocks are well sorted and neatly arranged.
   
2. Provide different kinds of material.
   
3. Children may be attracted if the teacher builds some small,
   
4. interesting models. However it should be used only as
   
5. stimulant but not as imitation to follow.
   
6. Avoid setting out all blocks and every accessory.
   
7. Large hollow blocks can be used out of doors.
