Chart reading

EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND DEVELOPMENT

Chart reading

Chart reading is useful when nature study becomes insufficient. In this process posters and charts describing different phenomena or events are hung on the walls. Children observe and describe what they find on the chart. Pictures must be quite clear and all required parts must be fully visible. There
should be proper colour combination. Chart must be hung at a suitable distance
with proper angles of elevation so as to be clearly visible.

Besides charts for nature study, a center should have story telling charts, charts for hygienic practices, balanced diet and other important and interesting topics with colourful pictures. Charts
may be prepared taking life cycles of common birds, animals, flies and insects.

Chart reading can be supplemented by observation of similar models. A chart has the advantage
of presenting a complete event on a screen. Thus every ECE center should have required charts for creating an environment inside the classroom for mental growth of the children.
