Role rejection

Family and Child Welfare 3 (3+0)

Lesson 11: Roles and Responsibilities of Community

Role rejection

Inadequate role implementation sometimes results from role rejection. For many people parenthood is a voluntarily assumed role, for others, parenthood is an involuntary burden resulting from a biological accident, there is on the part of these parents, a conscious or unconscious rejection of the parental role, which results in varying degree of failure in role performance. These parents are apt to be indifferent, neglectful or abusive. Some totally abandon the role of parents by deserting their families. The child suffers or is apt to suffer, as a result of rejection and parental role and the child welfare services are consequently required to protect the child.
