Lesson 13 : Importance of Animation in video production
Motion Capture
Motion capture (MoCap) is a logical computerized extension of film rotoscoping philosophy. Subjects are wired with sensors located at critical points on the body. The sensors either emit a signal to a remote receiver or are wired directly to a computer with a special program that combines the position of each of the body parts with an animated character. As the subject moves arms legs, head, or other body parts, the animated character moves the same amount and direction. The movements are accurately recorded in the computer program, allowing the animation to progress in real time as the actor(s) move. The process is not only a rapid means of animating movements, but also the body movements are accurate and realistic. The technology is still under development, and some animation purists do not totally accept MoCap as a legitimate form of animation.
