Lovebirds

Lovebirds - 1

  • The lovebirds are a group of small.
  • Short tailed parrots occurring in Africa and on certain offshore islands.
  • Nine species form the genus, and all are characterised by their unusual breeding behaviour, which is almost unparalled among the parrots- like birds.
  • Lovebirds collect nesting material with which they line the nest site, carry it either in their beaks or tucked in among the feathers of the rump, depending on the species concerned.
  • In spite of their name, however lovebirds can prove extremely aggressive, especially when breeding and for this reason it is safer to keep pairs on their own. They are highly attractive and rewarding birds to keep.
