Dosage of pituitary injection

DOSAGE OF PITUITARY INJECTION

  • Depending upon the ripeness of gonad and prevailing climatic conditions, the dosage of pituitary extract to be administered is decided. The females are given the pituitary extract in increasing quantities in split doses of generally two, whereas the males receive only one injection.
  • The two split doses in the case of female may vary from 2–4 mg/kg body for the first injection and 5–10 mg/kg body weight for the second injection.
  • The interval between two doses generally is 6 hours and males get the first dose along with the final dose of the female and the dose may range from 2–4 mg/kg body weight.
  • If the females are in prime condition even with the low dose of first injection they may breed. The dosage also will depend upon the potency of the glands used.
