Causes of leukocytosis and leucopenia

CAUSES OF LEUKOCYTSIS AND LEUCOPENIA

  • Bacterial infection – localized purulent bacterial infection and not if there is septicemia or toxemia.
  • Effect of steroids – due to neutrophils.
  • Lympho proliferative disorders
  • Feline infectious peritonitis
  • Tissue necrosis and severe inflammation
  • Pregnancy / parturition.

Causes of leucopenia:

  • Viral disease – CD, ICH, Canine parvovirus infection.
  • Overwhelming bacterial infection – endotoxins and toxic changes.
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Neoplasia of bone marrow.
  • Endogenous toxemia.
