DIFFERENT INSTRUMENTS USED FOR AUSCULTATION

  • A column taller than normal – haemoconcentration.

 Buffy coat: 1 mm = 10,000 and each additional mm = 20,000.

  • Buffy coat of less than 0.5 mm would suggest leucopenia.
  • Buffy coat above 1.5 mm would suggest leukocytosis.

 Plasma:

  • Straw yellow - normal
  • Deep yellow - lcterus
  • Hemolytic anemia - red
  • Turbid - lipemia and diabetes
  • An anemic animal with severe hemoconcentration may have a PCV within the normal range. Hence while interpreting the PCV the water balance should be taken into consideration.
