Causes of neutrophilia and neutropenia

CAUSES OF NEUTROPHILIA AND NEUTROPENIA

  • Physiological – fear/ excitement exercise.
  • Corticosteroid
  • Hyperadreno corticism.
  • Severe chronic stress, infection, necrosis, inflammation and not due to infection.
  • Hyperthyroidism.
  • Severe haemorrhagic and hemolytic anemia.
  • Acute granulocytic leukemia, estrogen toxicity and pregnancy.

Causes of neutropenia

  • Infection, overwhelming, bacterial, acute and chronic viral, protozoal
  • Toxic drugs and chemicals.
  • Auto immunity – systemic lupus erythematosis.
  • Radiation
  • Testicular tumors.
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Endogenous toxemia e.g. uremia
  • Neoplasia/necrosis of bone marrow
