BULL SELECTION

  • The bulls can be selected at an earlier age of around one year.
  • The early selection will help for proper care in feeding, other management and training.
  • It also helps the bulls to accommodate the environment of the semen station where it is going to live its life.
  • The selection will depend upon the critical general physical and andrological examination.

Genetic conformation

  • Bulls should be genetically acceptable
  • Breeding value of bulls should be measured based on his ancestors pedigree or on the quality of the progenies by progeny testing
  • The transmitting ability of the bull can be measured by the performance of its daughters.
  • Here we can the account of dam and sisters milk yield also.
  • For this purpose the first three lactations performance may be checked.
  • Bulls from lethal ancestors should not be selected
