3.3.3 Structure of Polysaccharides
Polysaccharides consist of long chains having hundred or thousands of monosaccharides units bonded to each other by glycosidic linkages. Polysaccharides are often also called glycans. They are classified as homopolysaccharides or heteropolysaccharides if they consist of one or more types of monosaccharide. Some polysaccharides such as cellulose linear chain whereas others, such as glycogen, have branched chains. |
