6.5.2.2.Oxidation of the ß- hydroxyacyl CoA to a ß keto ester

  

The 3-hydroxy derivative undergoes further oxidation of the 3-carbon by L(+)3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase to form the corresponding 3-ketoacyl-CoA compound. In this case, NAD+ is the coenzyme involved in the oxidation.  

                    L (+) 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase

L-3 hydroxyacyl-S-CoA + NAD+-->3-Ketoacyl-S-CoA+NADH+ H+
