5.1.1. Introduction

Blotting is the technique in which nucleic acids or proteins are immobilized onto a solid support generally nylon or nitrocellulose membranes. Nucleic acids or proteins are first separated by gel electrophoresis, transferred to the blotting membranes and probes are used to detect specific molecules from them. There are three types of blotting:

  1. Southern blotting
  2. Northern blotting
  3. Western blotting
