5.3.1. Western Blotting

Western blotting is a method used to transfer the proteins from the polyacrylamide gel onto the membrane and to detect a particular protein of interest using a probe mainly antibiotics. This technique is also referred as “immunoblotting” or “protein blotting”. This technique was invented by W. Neal Burnette at the laboratory of George Stark at Stanford. This technique is used in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, immunogenetics, etc. "Eastern blotting" refers to a technique used for the detection of post-translational modification of protein.
