1. It is used to detect anti-HIV antibody in a human serum sample.
2. It is a definitive test for Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) commonly referred to as 'mad cow disease' as well as Lyme disease.

4. It can also be applied for mapping restriction sites in single copy gene.
