5.1.2. Southern Blotting

Southern blotting is a technique used for the detection of specific DNA fragments in a complex mixture. This technique was invented by Edward Southern, a biologist of Edinburgh University, UK in 1975. The DNA molecules are transferred from an agarose gel onto a membrane and used to locate a specific gene within an entire genome.
