Lesson 10: Video Production Process and Studio Procedures

Microphones

There are several different microphones used in radio and television production, depending on the requirements of the individual productions. Broadly they are, omni-directional, bi-directional and uni-directional. However, the most common ones are the unidirectional ones, which are also called cardioid and super-cardioid from their sound pick up pattern. Microphones are also available in various sizes – lapel, gun or mounted on a boom. Lapel mics are very popular both in studio or other interviews. Today wireless mic units are available and are being extensively used.
