Lesson 9 : Fullness

Straight dart

The most common dart is the straight dart. It is used at the bust, the back shoulder, shirt waist, front and back elbows. The finished dart point towards the fullest part of the body or else starts at a seam line and tapers at its tip. Darts formed to fit body contour vary in shape and size and may result in straight, concave or convex converging pattern lines. Shape of dart is indicated by convergent lines on finished garment. It is always stitched from the wider end to the point.
