Kick pleats

Kick pleats are short inverted pleats stitched till the hipline. This pleat allows for movement in a straight skirt and is inserted at the base of centre back seam side of panel seams. A plain seam is stitched and the underlay of pleat is placed in position. Machine stitching is done to the underlay to each side of seam allowance and across the top of the pleat. Raw edges are neatened at top of underlay with herring bone. Hem is turned after the pleat is stitched, the seam is cut through along the hem so that the work lies flat. An arrowhead on right side can be used to complete, if necessary.
