Lesson 10:Garden Features

Bridges

  • Bridges are sometimes a necessary feature in a garden to cross a stream.
  • They should be harmonious with the landscape in both the design and material used. Garden bridges should serve the practical purpose of getting people, or the eye of beholder, across a body of water, real or simulated.
  • The shape, size and material of the bridge depends upon the type of water barrier it is to traverse.
  • In a picturesque garden design ,rustic looking material is more appropriate than the formal one.
  • They are made of stone, wood or concrete.
  • Bridges should be set so that the sides are seen at an oblique angle from the main point of vantage, usually the verandah or terrace of the house.
