1. What are known as ultimate constituents? Answer: The inorganic elements to which the plant can be finally decomposed are called as ultimate constituents. eg. C, H, O, N, P, K etc. 2. Write short notes on fruit pigments. Answer: The chief pigments of fruits are carotenoids, chlorophylls, anthocyanin, anthoxanthin etc. The yellow colour of many fruits is due to carotenoids. The cantenoids containing hydroxyl group are called xanthophylls which forms the specific colour bearing constituent of yellow maize, papaya and mandarin oranges. |
