  • In India, it is cultivated practically in all the states with a total production of 2,90,000 tonnes of seeds over an area of 5,46,500 hectares. Rajasthan stands first both in area (1,94,700 ha) as well as in production (12,03,000 quintals), followed by Andhra Pradesh with a production of 2,08,000 quintals (78,800 ha), Tamil Nadu with 1,98,000 quintals (49,000 ha) and Madhya Pradesh with 1,61,000 quintals (48,700 ha). Karnataka stands fifth with a production of 15,000 quintals (13,800 ha). It is also cultivated in Gujarat, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Bihar.
