Lesson 20 : Welfare Programmes for Adolescents

Youth against dirt and disease

Government of India launched this programme by the universities during 1974-75, as a part of the National Service Scheme (NSS). Campus organized at rural level for about 10-15 days consisting of 25-30 students. They concentrate on

1. Development of environmental sanitation
2. Social work
3. Man immunization against presentable diseases
4. Provision of portable water
5. Construction of Bio gas plants

The programme was launched in collaboration with Ministries of Education, Health Agriculture and village Industries Commission, Universities, Engineering and Medical Colleges etc.
