One basic dart can be divided into two darts (or more if desired) by shifting a part of the dart to a new position and allowing a part to remain in the original position, or one basic dart can be divided and shifted to new positions.
The new pattern will fit almost like the original pattern. Any dart can be divided, but it is the bust dart that is usually divided because it is large enough to divide into several darts. Bust dart is in the front so it is manipulated most frequently for design interest. (Figure 5)
Advantage Two dart or multiple dart patterns provide a better fit than the basic pattern with one dart because one dart creates a prominent & pronounced point at the bust. Two or more darts ending a short distance from the high point of the curve give better fit because they create shape over a broader area.
