Any basic dart can be incorporated into a seam for a dart fitting in a seam; If the seam lines or style line crosses the high point of the body curve (through the tip of any basic dart), the new pattern will fit exactly like the original basic pattern.
Supplement to Principle 7: Any basic dart can be incorporated into a seam for a dart fitting in a seam; but if the style line does not cross the high point of the body curve, the fit of the new pattern will be different from that of the original basic pattern in direct proportion to its distance from the high point of the body curve and in direct proportion to the width of the dart involved.
