Rhythm through progression of sizes or gradation

A gradual change in the length or thickness of lines (Fig.5.11) or shapes from small to large (Fig.5.12) may give variety with rhythm. One may also create variety by spacing between lines or shapes change in hue, value or intensity, change in amounts overlapped in a composition. Colours that move in slow succession from light to dark, from intense to dull or from one hue to neighboring hue also produce rhythm by gradation; gradation can be applied to any element of art.
