Flocking

A surface effect that is similar to a nap or pile may be created by flocking, in which short fibers are glued onto the surface of fabrics by an adhesive material (Fig.11.2). The short fibers are identified as flock and fibers used for the flock are generally of either rayon or nylon. The durability of flocked fabrics depends largely on the adhesive that holds the flock firmly during either laundering or dry cleaning. A second factor in the durability of flocked fabrics has to do with the fiber from which the flock has been made e.g. rayon flocking tends to wear more readily than does nylon.
