PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN AND APPLICATION
Lesson 11: Methods of Producing Designs on Textiles: Finishing, Embroidery & Applique Work

Appliqué work

In this technique one fabric is applied to another fabric to create motifs. Appliqué is mostly done on household articles like bed spreads, well panels, cushion covers and on children’s garments (Fig.11.6).These days it is common as apparel also. There is a wide variety of motifs that can be taken from a printed fabric or the designs can be traced directly on the fabric. Usually contrast colour fabrics are used for more decorative and appealing impact. The application of appliqué can be done either by hand or machine.
