Table linen

Table linens include various products such as table cover, tea pot cover, hand towels and napkins. Table linens may be woven, printed or embroidered. Prints of various types are used on table cloths. Embroidered table linen may freshen up any table with its lovely designs. The colours used in these should be carefully chosen to uplift the spirit of the room.

Table cover

      1. Used to cover a table and comes in different sizes according to the size of the table.
      2. Typically tablecloths are made of cotton, or from man made or synthetic fabric. More expensive tablecloths may be made from silk, linen or lace giving graceful look to the room.
      3. Checks or stripes and floral prints are always in demand (Fig.16.5).
      4. Motifs vary from natural and stylized to geometric, abstract and from something traditional to contemporary.
      5. Surface enrichment can be done by embossing, embroidery, appliqué art and in some cases laces can be used.

  1. Small, medium or large borders
  2. All over designs
  3. Scattered patterns
  4. Single large central motif
  5. Central motif with borders
  6. Corner motifs

Teapot Cover: It is used to cover the teapot. Surface enrichment in teapot cover can be done by printing or embroidery or appliqué. Usually little embroidery is seen in bright colours on light background. Other than embroidery, beautiful and elegant teapot cover are also available in non wovens with some surface enrichment (Fig.16.7). Motifs are floral, geometric, stylized and abstracts.

Towels and Napkins : Towels and napkins are made of very light weight fabric. Mostly geometrical motifs are seen. Pile weave is also used in towels. Most of the towels and napkins are woven in check and stripe pattern as shown in the following figure 16.8.
