6.2.1.2.2.3 Gangliosides
Gangliosides are complex glycosphingolipids and contain glycosylceramide and glucose, galactose, N acetyl glucosamine and sialic acid. These are glycolipids occurring in the brain and nervous tissues. Nuraminic acid is the principal sialic acid found in human tissues. They appear to have receptor and other functions.
