GOURAMI (Trichogaster spp.)

  • Gourami is distributed in natural water bodies of many Asian countries including India. The fish grows to a maximum size of 10 cm. The body is characterized by the presence of many pearl like dots all over the body and brown line running horizontally from head to tail. It feeds on live foods like small insects and artificial diets. In some species, the ventral fin has thread like structures. The popular varieties of gouramis are silver gourami (T. microlepis), three spot gourami (T.trichopterus) and kissing gourami (Helostoma temmincki).
