GUPPY (Poecilia reliculata)

  • It is distributed in ponds and shallow waters of the world. The females are larger (5cm) than the males. Its body has decorated spots and streaks of most vivid colours. It feeds mainly on live food organisms like rotifers, mosquito larvae etc. Males have a modified anal fin called gonopodium that helps in breeding. Common varieties of guppies based on their caudal fish variations are round tail, sword tail, lace tail, flag tail, fan tail, delta tail and Robson round tail.
