Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING

  • Carbon monoxide is produced due to incomplete combustion of organic matter.
  • Carbon monoxide converts haemoglobin to carboxyhaemoglobin and thus the oxygen carrying capacity is affected.

  • Blood is bright red in colour and the mucous membrane is healthy pink. Oxygen can be given as treatment.
  • Carbon monoxide has 200 times more affinity than oxygen for haemoglobin.
  • Blood transfusion can also be tried.
