3.3.18 Control Panel

Control is used to change system settings (Screen, keyboard, mouse, Date, Time...etc.

To open Control Panel

  1. Click the start button and then Choose Settings, Control Panel.
  2. From the desktop, double click My Computer and then double click the Control Panel folder icon.
  3. From Windows Explorer, click the Control Panel folder found in the left pane of the window. The contents of th e control panel appear in the right panel.

Printer: It is used to add a new Printer in the system.

Date & Time

  1. Double click the Date/Time icon in control panel. The Date/time properties box appears.
  2. In the date section of the dialog box, click the Mon th box to select the current month or any month from the dropdown list.
  3. Use the small up and down arrows to change the year or enter the current year in the year box.
  4. In the Time box, click the time component you want to change (the hours, minutes, secon ds, or am/pm).Use the small up and down arrows to adjust the settings.

Mouse: It is used to change the mouse settings such as trails, inter change left and right buttons, double clicking speed.

Keyboard: It is used to change a keyboard such as repeat rat e speed, first character speed rate, cursor blinking rate etc.

Display: Used to set the screen saver, background settings, wallpaper, border width of window, spacing between icons. To change the colour of the desktop:

  1. From the control panel window, doubl e click the display icon. The display properties dialogue box appears.
  2. Click the appearance tab and click the down arrow on the colour list box to see a selection of background colours.
  3. Click the colour you want and click apply to see how the desktop wil l look in that colour. Then click Ok to accept your choice and close the dialog box.

To change the desktop background

  1. From the control panel windows double click the display icon. The display properties dialogue box appears with the background tab sele cted.
  2. From the pattern list box, select an appropriate pattern. A sample of your selection appears in the monitor picture. The pattern uses the background colour plus black. Choose none to remove all patterns from the background of the desktop.
  3. From the wall paper list box, select a picture to place on your desktop. It will appear in the monitor picture so you can see how it will look on your screen. Choose none to remove all wall paper from the desktop. Click the browse button to select a file you create d or imported (it must have a bmp extension).
  4. If you want the picture to appear in the middle of your screen, select centre as the display. The background colour or pattern will still show around the picture. If you want the entire screen filled with the picture, select tile. The picture will be repeated across the screen until it fills the desktop background.
  5. Click applies to see how the desktop will look with the pattern or wall paper you selected. Click ok to accept your choice and close the dialogue b ox.

Screen saver: Screen saver is a programme which will be executed when there is no keyboard action or mouse action for a period of time say 1 second. Screen saver programme will save the current screen format and then displays a text or a picture. The execution of this programme will be continued till any key is pressed or mouse action. When a key is pressed or mouse action is occurred, the screen saver will restore the screen format again which is stored already. Screen saver can be used for entertainment.
