What is a File?

File is collection of data items stored on disk. Or it's device which can store the information, data, music (mp3), picture, movie, sound, book etc. In fact whatever you store in compute r it must be inform of file. Files are always associated with devices like hard disk, floppy disk etc. File is the last object in your file system tree. The general rules for naming file and directory names .

1. All file names are case sensitive.

2. You can use upper and lowercase letters, numbers, "." (dot), and "_" (underscore) symbols.

3. Most modern Linux limit filename to 255 characters

Linux reserved character should not be used /, >,<,|, : and & for naming file name .
