Care of the Pool

  • Aquatic plants need very little care. However, some species grow very vigorously and need trimming to avoid over-crowding and smothering of weaker species.
  • Water is a breeding place of mosquito. A few fish will serve to eliminate the larvae. Gold and other ornamental fishes add to the beauty of the water garden and grow on these larvae.
  • The leaves and stems of aquatic plants will give shelter to these fishes from kingfisher, egrets, etc.
  • In addition, a few water snails, into the pool will act as scavengers by eating up the waste plant parts.
  • Sometimes the water of the pond becomes green. Add 1 kg potassium permanganate or 120 grams copper sulphate to every 24,000 liters of water.
  • If the first application is unsuccessful, give a second application 10 days later.
  • It may be necessary to drain off the water completely once in several years and leave the bottom to dry up.
