Lesson 13:Orthographic Drawings – Sections

Types of sections

  • Plan for small residences and some very simple commercial buildings typically have only a wall section which implies that all the walls are identical. If this is not the case then additional sections need to be drawn.
  • Two full sections – trans verse or longitudinal. A full building section shows all construction details including floor roof & other connecting elements.
  • If it is too large small portions that are identical and continuous can be broken out.
  • Major structural features are identified, elevations of major levels (floors, ceiling, roof etc) are dimensions, rooms are identified by name and number and any descriptive information necessary is added.
  • The scale used to draw building sections varies with the size of the building and drawing paper. The larger the scale used clearer the details.
