Decorative design

The design that is applied on the fabric for surface enrichment is called decorative design eg. dyeing and printing. Any lines, colours or materials that have been applied to a structural design for the purpose of adding a richer quality to it constitute its decorative design.

Requirements of a good decorative design

  • The decoration should be used in moderation.
  • The decoration should be placed at right points and it should strengthen the beauty of the base fabric.
  • Surface pattern should cover the surface quietly.
  • The decoration should be suitable for the materials and for the service it must give.
  • Design should have an aesthetic value, merit as well as individuality.

Decorative designs can be applied on the surface of the fabric by various means such as:

    1. Print­ing
    2. Dyeing
    3. Painting
    4. Finishing
    5. Embroidery
