2.7. High Performance Liquid Chromatography
High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is one of the major techniques widely used for analytical separation of components in a mixture using a liquid mobile phase. Martin and Synge discovered the liquid-liquid partition chromatography in 1941 and got the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1952. This technique has got high sensitivity, high efficiency, high resolution and wide applicability. It is suitable for the analyis of non- volatile as well as thermally labile compounds. It is extensively used in chemical, pharmaceutical, biochemical, biomedical and environmental analyses. |
