Origin: North Europe

  • As the Embden breed was also known originally as the Bremen, one associates it with Germany although stock reached us from Holland.
  • In Germany and North Holland, no doubt they crossed the Italian white with their native whites, creating the Embden. When stock did reach this country our breeders crossed the birds with our own English whites, and by careful selection increased the body weight and quantity of meat, while standar¬dizing the breed for characteristics.

General characteristics: male and female

  • Carriage: Upright and defiant.
  • Type: Body broad, thick and well rounded. Back long and straight. Breast round. Shoulders and stern broad. Paunch deep and dual lobed. Wings large and strong. Tail close and carried well out.
  • Head: Strong, bold. Stout bill. Eyes bold.
  • Neck: Long, well proportioned, without a gullet.
  • Legs and feet: Legs medium. Shanks large and strong. Toes straight and connected by web.
  • Plumage: Hard and tight.

Colour

  • Plumage of both sexes: Pure glossy white.
  • In both sexes: Bill orange. Eyes light blue. Legs and webs bright orange.

Grey black

  • Origin: Germany
  • This is similar in type to the Buff Back. Unlike the grey-back Pomeranian it is dual lobed in the paunch.
