6.2.7.1 Cotton seed
Cotton seed is a valuable oilseed for incorporation in fish diets, but as it also serves as a ready substrate for growth of Aspergillus. Cotton seeds generally also contain two toxins. The most important of these is gossypol, a yellow pigment which, when included in the diet, causes anorexia, and accumulation of large lipid granules in the hepatocytes and renal tubules which act as nuclei for granulomatosis. |
