Diagnosis

Developmental assessment of Young children 4 (1+3)

Diagnosis

The second purpose of conducting assessment is diagnosis which means the determination of the extent and nature of developmental delay? when the screening procedure indicates that the child is at risk for developmental delay or when parents refer their children for perceived developmental problems, a comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluation should be conducted by concentrating on the issues like

  1. Medical issues
  2. General developmental status
  3. Sensory and motor functioning
  4. Social development issues

The evaluation may lead to definitive diagnosis regarding etiology or reasons for developmental delays or conditions. This procedure is done by qualified professionals and involves both hard signs like Down’s syndrome, Cerebral palsy and soft signs like motor delays and low muscle tone.
