Stage I – Child find/case finding

This is the initial step which involves locating of children who need intervention programmes and services. This process is called child-find. Parents may not be aware that their child is not developing normally. Other parents do not know that services are available for their child.

The goal of child find is to encourage individuals and agencies to take a comprehensive look at the young children they encounter in order to refer for screening preschoolers who may need early intervention.
