Introduction

  • Food is defined as anything which is edible.
  • Varieties of foods provide wide range (various functions) of nutrients (different proportions)
  • Foods are classified based on predominant nutrients. This will serve as a guide for selection and use of foods. Means of estimating adequacy of diets.
  • Depending on the relative concentration of nutrients in foods, they are classified as
    1. Protein rich
    2. Carbohydrate rich
    3. Fat rich
