Introduction

Millets such as sorghum, bajra, ragi and other minor millets such as proso millet (Panicum miliaceum), little millet (Panicum miliare), foxtail millet (Setaria italica), kodo millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum) and barnyard millet (Echinochloa frumentacea) are regarded as coarse grains. They are consumed as staple grain by a large section of population living in dryland regions of Asia, Africa and Central America.
