State Awards in the Field of Child Welfare

Two awards are conferred to institutions and one award to an individual.

Awards:
To institution engaged in the field of child welfare, cash award of Rs.1,00,000/- and a citation.

Individual Award:
To an individual who has done best work in the field of child welfare, cash award of Rs. 50,000/- and a citation.

Scheme for Welfare of Working Children in Need of Care and Protection
Objective:
Provision of opportunities including non-formal education, vocational training, etc to working children to facilitate their entry/re-entry into the mainstream of education with a view to preventing their continued or future exploitation, in cases where they have either not attended any learning system or where for some reasons their education has been discontinued.

Target Group: The programme will lend support to projects in urban areas not already covered by the existing schemes of Ministry of Labour, which provide support for the whole development of child workers and potential child workers especially those who have none or ineffective family support such as children of slum/pavement dwellers/drug addicts, children living on railway platforms, children working in shops, dhaba, those engaged as domestic workers, children whose parents are in jail, children of migrant labourers, sex workers, leprosy patients etc.

Eligibility: Non-Governmental Organizations meeting the following requirements are eligible for the assistance under this programme:

  1. It is a registered body under an appropriate act for at least two years so that it gets a corporate status and a legal personality and a group of liability for its activities.
  2. It has an appropriate administrative structure and a duly constituted managing/executive committee.
  3. Aims and objectives of Organization's Memorandum of Association should include the basic objectives of this scheme namely the welfare of child.

Pattern of Assistance: 90% of the cost will be borne by Govt. of India and 10% will be met by the concerned voluntary organization.
