Scheme of Assistance to Voluntary Organization to Combat Trafficking of Children for Commercial Sexual Exploitation

Objective:This project aims to test the efficacy of certain approaches and methods to combat sexual abuse of children and rehabilitate them.

Eligibility: NGO working for the cause must be a registered Voluntary Organization possessing by law Infrastructure facilities, Board of Management and possess the pattern of staff, specified as per guidelines. Project area for A specific red light area of a city or town, a village in a source assistance: district.

Components:

  1. Net working with law enforcement agencies, rescue operation, the project : temporary shelter for the victim, repatriation to home town, prosecution. Total cost of the project : 8.23 lakhs
  2. Community empowerment - awareness generation and social alertness, poverty alleviation schemes, micro credit schemes through women's groups and self help groups, involvement of Panchayati Raj institutions. Girl child empowerment would cater to education and training.

Pattern of assistance:

  1. Period of the project is specified for one year.
  2. The Scheme has three patterns under three different project titles namely pilot project to combat trafficking of women and children in destination areas, source area and to overcome commercial sexual exploitation.

Scheme being implemented by:

  • Basava Karya Samiti in Bidar,
  • Maitri and Kids Association in Dharwad are implementing the programmes to combat trafficking of women and children in Karnataka

National Award for Individuals and Institutions

  1. Government of India has instituted this award to recognize voluntary efforts of individuals/institutions rendering services in the field of child welfare and development.
  2. Five institutional awards of Rs. 3 lakh each and three individual awards of Rs. 1 lakh each and a citation is given.
  3. The awards will be given to institutions and individuals who have rendered outstanding services in the field of child welfare for a period of 5 years.

The committee constituted by the state government will select and recommend the names to Government of India

National Award to Children for Exceptional Achievement

  1. Government of India has instituted the award to be given to children with exceptional abilities and who have shown outstanding achievement in any field such as academics, arts, culture and sports.
  2. Children between the age group of 4-15 years will be selected for this award.
  3. The National Award consists of a Gold Medal, Rs.20,000/- cash and citation for one child.
  4. In addition to this, a Silver Medal with a cash prize of Rs.10,000/- and citation is given for one child per State.

The committee constituted by the state government will select and recommend such exceptional children to government of India. The selected children will be declared and awarded by Government of India.

Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award

  • Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award identifies an individual who has made outstanding contribution while rendering services for children for a period of 10 years.
  • Service in the field of child welfare including the care of children with disabilities will be considered.
  • The name of the selected individual will be announced on the birthday of late Sri. Rajiv Gandhi i.e., on 20th August every year.
  • The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000 and a citation.
  • The committee constituted by the State government select and recommend the names to Government of India.
